Biography

Jamie Withorne is a Doctoral Research Fellow in Political Science at the University of Oslo, where she is part of the Oslo Nuclear Project. She is also a Junior Associate Fellow at the NATO Defense College. Her PhD research explores how emerging technologies, shifting regional geopolitics, and alliance structures such as NATO shape nuclear weapons and strategic stability.

Prior to her doctoral studies, Jamie was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow with the International Atomic Energy Agency in the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. She has also worked as a Graduate Affiliate and Research Assistant with the Oslo Nuclear Project, and as a Research Assistant at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies in Washington, DC. In addition, she has held positions at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the U.S. Department of State, and the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation. Her work has been cited in CNN, the Associated Press, and PBS NewsHour.

Jamie’s research interests include nuclear weapons policy, arms control and nonproliferation, and the role of emerging technologies in international security. She holds a BA in Political Science from Columbia University in the City of New York and an MPhil in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Oslo.
